Tips for Preparing Your Package for Safe Delivery
Proper packaging is one of the most important steps in the shipping process. Even when a courier handles a package carefully, inadequate packaging can increase the risk of damage during transportation.
Whether you’re sending a personal parcel or shipping products to customers, taking a few extra minutes to prepare your package properly can make a significant difference.
1. Choose the Right-Sized Box
Avoid using a box that is significantly larger than the item inside.
Too much empty space can allow the contents to move around during transportation. At the same time, an oversized box may require additional protective material.
Choose a strong box that provides enough room for the item and appropriate cushioning.
2. Protect Fragile Items
Fragile products should be surrounded with suitable protective material.
Depending on the item, you can use bubble wrap, foam, paper padding, or other appropriate packaging materials.
The goal is to prevent the contents from moving excessively inside the box.
3. Fill Empty Spaces
If there is space between the item and the walls of the box, add suitable cushioning material.
This helps reduce movement and provides additional protection against impacts that may occur while the shipment is being handled.
4. Seal the Package Properly
Use strong packaging tape to securely close the box.
Make sure all openings are properly sealed and avoid relying on weak tape or inadequate closures, especially for heavier shipments.
5. Label the Package Clearly
Your shipping label should be clear and easy to read.
Make sure important information such as the recipient’s name, delivery address, and relevant contact information is accurate.
If your shipment has special handling requirements, make sure those instructions are clearly communicated.
6. Check the Package Before Pickup
Before handing your package to the courier, inspect the box.
Make sure:
- The package is securely closed
- The label is attached properly
- The contents are adequately protected
- The delivery information is correct
- There are no obvious signs of packaging weakness
7. Keep Your Tracking Number
Once your shipment has been booked, keep your tracking number somewhere safe.
Your tracking number allows you to follow the shipment and check important updates throughout its delivery journey.
